As a partner in the EU Interreg NWE funded RED WoLF Project (Rethink Electricity Distribution Without Load Following), Carbery Housing Association has installed innovative energy systems in four properties purchased under the Mortgages to Rent Programme in Cork City and County.
These systems comprise photovoltaic solar panels, batteries, storage heaters for space heating and a diverter which sends excess energy to the hot water cylinder. A “smart” controller decides when electricity is taken from the grid, shifting demand to low carbon intensity times and maximising self-consumption of the photovoltaic electricity. System performance is monitored remotely by CHA to inform better energy management.
