The aim of this development was to utilize existing public owned lands (Old Council Offices) to create public housing in an established urban residential setting. The location of this development is ideally placed in the heart of Loughrea Town adjacent to all services and amenities.
The site itself is adjacent to the shore of Lough Rea on a busy street and it was important to respect the existing urban form and character of the street within the design while also considering the requirements of the end user. The site is narrow which presented challenges and also has heritage features which have been retained and revitalized.
The houses have been specifically designed for families, maximizing the use of space, both indoor and outdoor for family life. The result is quality built, low maintenance, energy efficient homes for families in the urban setting.
These homes and their proximity to schools and services will allow for families to easily integrate into the community.
A statement from the Architect for these homes “This is architecture with a small ‘a’, discreet, appropriate to its context, inherently embedded into its community and well designed and built”.
