‘Centenary House’ saw the transformation of a derelict Christian Brothers School attended by former President Éamon de Valera into nine high-quality social housing homes in Charleville.
The bright homes, with high ceilings, tall windows, and high energy performance ratings, include seven one-bed apartments as well as two apartments for families and communal garden facilities. The preservation of the building’s historic exterior, with its landmark status, ensures harmonious integration within the heart of the town.
Homelessness affects every corner of Ireland. Not just large urban areas. ‘Centenary House’ demonstrates how derelict buildings can be thoughtfully regenerated to address rural housing needs.
