Dublin City Council’s Cornamona Court development is located on Kylemore Road, Ballyfermot. The site previously accommodated single-storey older persons housing, which was no longer sustainable, and was cleared for development in 2007. A core objective was re-housing older persons into purpose-designed apartments within their neighbourhood. In 2017 the Council reassessed the area’s housing needs, identifying the waiting list’s requirement for family housing. This informed a mixed brief for 61 intergenerational social homes, including 28 houses and duplexes for families, and 33 older person apartments.
The site is located in an established neighbourhood, within walking distance of Ballyfermot’s main street, parish church, schools, shops, library, sports and community buildings. The homes are arranged around a generous landscaped courtyard garden, with family homes at ground level having direct access to play areas, and older person apartments above. A ground-floor community room facility is also provided at ground floor level.
