Permission was secured for the development of 46 homes and a community building though the Part 8 process under the Planning and Development Act (2000) and was funded under Capital Advance Leasing Facility and Payment Availability.
The scheme presents true collaboration between a number of agencies such as Cork County Council, The Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, Housing Agency, The Housing Finance Agency and Respond. This project was designed in-house by the Development Department’s Design Team in Respond, with input from external design team consultants. The scheme was procured & delivered through an Employer led Public Works Contract and constructed by Townmore Construction Ltd.
Planning and housing is all about people. The design vision for Fermoy aimed to be people centred: to create sustainable homes, while integrating the existing mature trees, landscaping, playground and homes within the natural contours of the site.
The design creates a sense of community through active place making The planned diversity of housing typology allows for a mix of unit types to cater for the needs of the tenants under general needs housing, housing for older persons and persons with disabilities. The scheme enhances community integration and the social fabric of the area.
