The development is centrally located in Cork’s Medieval Quarter on the main thoroughfare of Grand Parade. Its location places it within walking distance of local and national transport hubs. Prior to regeneration, the building was disused and vacant. Following careful redevelopment, it now consists of high-quality, permanent homes for 16 households, with Focus Irelands office at ground-floor level.
The design solution was implemented to cater for both ‘general needs’ and ‘support needs’ tenants. Focus Ireland’s Meascan model adopts an intentional social mix of tenants with and without support needs to bring about more tolerance, appreciation and understanding of the impacts of homelessness. All tenants are aware that some of their neighbours may have experienced homelessness, along with the challenges that this brings, and that support is available to all.
