Housing Charity welcomes increase in income limits for social housing

The Irish Council for Social Housing (ICSH), the national federation for voluntary housing associations, has welcomed the increase of €5,000 to the maximum income limits for social housing support. This increases the threshold in Dublin city from €30,000 – €35,000 for a single person and from €36,000 to €42,000 for a family of three adults and four children.

Mr Donal McManus, Executive Director, stated “It is important that state resources should be targeted at those who can’t afford to house themselves”. He added, “This increase in the maximum income limits is significant for families, including some working families. It will help improve integration in social housing and facilitate more mixed income communities”.

A new system of assessment and regulations came into operation on 1 April, 2011. The ICSH recently called on all housing authorities to make sure potential applicants and existing tenants are made aware of the changes in the regulations for assessment for social housing.
