2009 Board Member Award

The Irish Council for Social Housing recently announced the winner of the ICSH Board Member Award 2009 as Dan Rogan, Chairperson, Monaghan Branch of Parents and Friends of Persons with an Intellectual Disability, Co.Monaghan.

The 2009 Board Member Award winner was Dan Rogan. Dan has served with Monaghan Branch of Parents and Friends of Persons with an Intellectual Disability for 25 years. Dan’s leadership, motivation, energy and enthusiasm is unlimited in his work to provide housing for those in need. Dan was instrumental in his work in developing the first ICSH Management Agreement which was signed by Monaghan County Council, Monaghan Branch of Parents and Friends of People with an Intellectual Disability and the Health Service Executive (HSE).

This years winner was presented with a cash prize of €500 and a glass sculpture donated by Tunstall Emergency Response. The award ceremony took place at the ICSH Biennial Social Housing Conference held in the Sheraton Hotel, Athlone, Co.Westmeath.

The Board Member Award was established by the ICSH in 2007 to recognise individuals who have made a positive contribution as a Board Member to the provision of social housing in Ireland. The award recognises individuals who have worked tirelessly in their communities over and above the call of duty. The 2009 nominations were open to all members of housing associations affiliated to the ICSH who currently serve on a governing body or has done so in the last two years. There were entries from all over Ireland for the Board Member Award with eight nominees shortlisted.

The Cathaoirleach of Westmeath County Council Fintan Cooney, Tunstall Managing Director for Scotland and Ireland David Kelly and ICSH President Gene Clayton presented the winner and special commendation certificates to the successful Board Members.

The nominees who received special commendations were:

  • Alice McAuliffe, Dromin / Athlacca Housing Project Ltd., Co. Limerick
  • James O’ Donnell, Ardara Sheltered Housing Association, Co. Donegal
  • Simon Brooke, Clúid Housing Association, Dublin
  • Dr. Paddy Harte, Oaklee Housing Trust, Dublin
  • Mrs Olivia White, Mid Offaly Housing Association, Co. Offaly
  • Alice Lennon, Callan Community Housing Association, Co. Kilkenny
