2011 Community Housing Awards

The 2011 Community Housing Awards sponsored by Allianz were announced on Wednesday 28th September as part of the ICSH Biennial National Social Conference in Galway.

Initiated in 2003, the awards showcase the range of high quality social housing projects that have been developed buy housing associations and local authorities in recent years which have contributed significantly to creating more stable and sustainable communities.

In 2011, entries included housing projects for various categories as well as new areas such as innovation on finance and collaboration. An overall winner will be chosen from the category winners. In the past there have been winners from both local authorities and housing associations.

Dublin City Council in partnership with Circle Voluntary Housing Association were announced as the overall winners of the Allianz Community Housing Awards at the ICSH National Social Housing Conference.

The overall award was made for the redevelopment of Sean Treacy housing in Dublin 1, a two year project which involved the demolition of the existing 1960s flat blocks and replacement with a mixed housing development comprising 53 homes, car parking and a community building. Circle Voluntary Housing Association manages the units on behalf of Dublin City Council.

Mr Donal McManus, Executive Director, ICSH commented, “a record number of submissions were received this year and the standard was exceptionally high which demonstrates the quality of social housing across the country”.

The Community Housing Awards were established by the Irish Council for Social Housing (ICSH) in 2003 to recognise excellence in good design and housing management and strong links with the local community for local authorities, housing associations and co-operatives.
