As a very challenging year draws to a close, our housing association members can reflect on the strength and resilience of the sector in the face of adversity, and also feel positive about new initiatives and indicators to support the provision of affordable homes by housing association over the coming years. The recent Budget 2021 announcements on housing by Minister Darragh O’Brien provide for a significant social and affordable programme of delivery in 2021. Some of these are building further on recent progress, whilst others include new targeted initiatives particularly on affordable housing.
Our engaging virtual Finance and Development conference in October also pointed to what may hopefully be a more definite trend: an increasing number of financial institutions viewing social housing as a stable long term investment in a sector that also focuses on addressing key environment and social objectives.
