New Dolphin Park was developed by Fold Housing and replaced the existing senior citizens bedsit complex built in 1957.
The project is a collaboration between Fold, Dublin City Council, the people of Dolphin and the wider community. The people of Dolphin were at the heart of this project and their ideas and aspirations for these new homes were incorporated in the finished design. Each apartment was planned to suit the needs of older people whilst supporting independence and, importantly, keeping running costs low for residents.
The scheme was designed around a secure central courtyard with open walkways on the upper levels. Seating in the sunny courtyard provides outdoor space to meet, sit and chat with neighbors, friends and family. A new community kitchen opening in October will provide hot meals and social activities for residents and older people locally.
This is a vibrant, close-knit community where residents have always supported one another through life’s ups and downs. The Remembrance Garden, built in a sunny corner of the complex around an old Sycamore tree, was the initiative of the residents themselves to remember their friends and neighbours from Dolphin Park who sadly passed away before they could move into their new homes.
