Respond! College is pleased to offer the QQI Accredited Level 6, NFQ ‘Certificate in Community Studies’ – commencing this September 2015.
This Certificate in Community Studies is a Level 6 (30 credit) Special Purpose Award and is tailored to the needs of those working, or wishing to work, in a community setting, a housing authority and/or voluntary group (paid or unpaid). It is designed to explore concepts of community and community development within a social analysis framework. It will introduce learners to key technical and analytical skills that support and encourage participation within a community setting.
The course is suitable for anyone who:
- Hopes to become more involved in their community and is looking to learn more about how this can be achieved;
- Is interested in the social structures that shape community living;
- Wishes to develop skills and knowledge to support their work within a community setting.
What are the modules?
- Community Studies (10 credits);
- Group-work and Facilitation (10 credits);
- Introduction to Sociology (10 credits).
By the end of the course successful participants will have:
- Explored concepts of community and community development;
- An increased understanding of the complex processes that shape modern society;
- Developed their capacity in group work and facilitation;
- Gained a range of other skills required when engaging with communities;
- Obtained 30 credits at Level 6 (on the NFQ: National Qualifications Framework).
These credits may potentially be used in applying for exemptions on other similar courses at Certificate and Degree level (e.g. BA in Housing and Community Studies delivered by Respond! College and validated by QQI-HET).
Where will the course be delivered?
The Course will be delivered one evening per week at three locations from 6.30pm-10pm and will also include six Saturdays (workshops) for the coming academic year:
- Respond! College, High Park, Grace Park Road, Drumcondra, Dublin 9
Start date Tuesday September 29th;
- Respond! Cork Office, St Francis Gardens, Thomas Davis St, Blackpool, Cork
Start date Thursday September 24th;
- Respond! Waterford Office, Airmount, Dominic Place, Waterford;
Start date Monday September 28th
