Túath’s Diversity Strategy Reaping Dividends

Túath Housing’s national procurement and acquisition strategy secured over 500 social homes in 2017 by July. New social homes have been provided within 30 different local authority areas. A further 300+ social homes are currently on site and are also due for handover throughout the country before the end of the year. The association will have invested approximately €80 million using a combination of State funding and private finance from the Housing Finance Agency (HFA), European Investment Bank (EIB) and Allied Irish Bank (AIB) by year end. One of the largest single social housing schemes to be undertaken this year, comprising some 122 apartments, has been completed in collaboration with Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council and NAMA. The homes vary from apartments to houses spanning from 1 to 5 bedrooms in urban and rural areas. Túath is providing homes to a wide range of tenants including families, older people, single people, the disabled, the homeless, working and unemployed persons as well as a small number of homeowners with unsustainable mortgages. Túath led construction activity has also been ramped up with the association currently working on 12 local authority sites to provide over 250 new social homes for people on housing waiting lists nationally with most schemes to be completed by the end 2018.

Seamus Doherty, Túath’s Chairman commented: “In 2016, we were very proud to surpass the 500 homes mark in one year. With the support of the State, Housing Finance Agency and other lenders and local authority partners, we are doubly proud to have already delivered over 500 homes so far this year, typically renting at €50 per week. It underlines the fact that with interest rates so low, now has never been a better time to buy and build to help combat the affordable housing crisis. We are on target to deliver some 800 new social homes in 2017 to bring our total social stock to over 3,500 homes, setting us on course to achieve our 2020 vision of 5,000+ social homes ahead of target.”
