Honey Park Dun Laoghaire, winner of the ICSH 2013 award for Mixed Communities has again been recognised with the prestigious Environment Category at the SEAI Energy Awards 2013.
Honey Park currently consists of 80 social and 64 affordable apartments along with private family accommodation within a proposed overall development to provide some 856 houses & apartments, along with crèche facilities, a supermarket, shops, cafe and a neighbourhood centre on the 78-acre site.
Honey Park is located on the site of the old Dun Laoghaire Golf Club and shows the way forward in how buildings need to progress to future proof against rising energy costs and the finite nature of resources. Cosgrave’s developed the Honey Park site as a new benchmark for energy conservation, sustainability and efficiency. This not only applies to the construction of the homes but also the environment they are situated in. Cosgrave’s are working together with The Curlew Trust charity to create a better habitat for native plants and wildlife to flourish. A feature lake has been constructed along with a playground for children and a multi-sports court for tennis, basketball, football and volleyball for the residents. As the site develops a nature trail is being extended through the development.
Honey Park demonstrates that high performance homes can be delivered on a scalable level rather than one off bespoke construction. This has resulted in A-rated homes where heating costs are a fraction of those built 10 years ago or more. These high performance results have been achieved using systems that are low maintenance, simple to operate, and more importantly are sustainable. The homes at Honey Park offer a greener, sustainable way of living in style and comfort with lower energy bills.
Cosgrave’s have worked with suppliers, SEAI and the Department of the Environment to develop the best all round sustainable solutions and ensure the exchange of information with all of the stake holders.
This co-operative approach ensures that Honeypark is at the forefront of what can be achieved. Túath are delighted to be part of this exciting, sustainable project.
