Appointments to Board of the Irish Council for Social Housing 2024

Appointment of three external members to the Board of the Irish Council for Social Housing (ICSH)

About the Irish Council for Social Housing

The Irish Council for Social Housing (ICSH) is the national federation of housing associations in Ireland. The ICSH represents and promotes and supports the work of not-for-profit housing associations (also known as approved housing bodies or AHBs) that collectively own and manage 61,500 homes, accommodating up to 130,000 people in 600 communities throughout Ireland.

Approved Housing Bodies

Through support from the Government’s Housing Plan, Housing for All, the AHB/housing association sector has successfully played an enhanced role in the delivery of housing through a range of measures. This has resulted in our AHB membership providing nearly 50% annually of all new permanent social housing to those in housing need. In addition to increasing the scale of delivery of new homes for families and general needs, additional specialist housing and supports have been provided by AHBs for homeless households, older people, disabled people, people encountering mortgage problems, housing for new communities and the important new cost rental housing model for median income households. As part of this, a new statutory regulator (AHBRA) has also been also established by Government for the AHB sector.

ICSH Board Recruitment

Therefore, in order for the ICSH federation to support members in this phase of further development, and in line with ICSH Governance arrangements, three external board members are now sought to further the implementation of the ICSH Strategic Objectives and priorities in its five-year strategic plan 2022-2026 (see included). There are also major issues and events that will impact the sector and ICSH over the coming years. Some of these include a new long-term strategy for the AHB sector by Government, the election of a new Government and recommendations adopted from the proposals from the Housing Commission.

If you feel you can make a difference, are motivated and have relevant expertise, as well as being genuinely interested in this new exciting phase of the development of the sector and playing an active role on the ICSH Board in ensuring oversight and implementation, we are seeking external board members in the following areas:

  • Financial planning (linked to housing development & delivery)
  • Public sector engagement and/or technical support
  • Communications and promotion
